Government releases anti-sanctions day programme

The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services has released the programme of events for this Friday’s anti-sanctions march, with the day set to be filled with solidarity messages reading, a soccer match and a music gala lasting until the next day.

Sadc leaders meeting at their last annual summit in Tanzania in August set 25 October as the day the region will hold solidarity protests against the US-imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe.

While the main event will be at the National Sports Stadium in Harare, similar events will be held across various centres around the country.

The National Sports Stadium will open at 6am for the event, with Friday having already been declared a public holiday by the Cabinet.

The information ministry says the main event will begin with a march from the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square outside the CBD at 6am.

Solidarity messages and the main address by President Emmerson Mnangagwa will only take up the 45 minutes starting from 11.15am.

From 12.00 noon, a soccer match pitting bitter rivals Highlanders and Dynamos will kick off.

A music gala will then close the day from 3.00pm running till 6.00am the next day.

Among the artistes billed to perform include Jah Prayzah, Iyasa, Sulumani Chimbetu, Sandra Ndebele, Leonard Zhakata, Seh Calaz, Rocqui, Progress Chipfumo, among several others.
