Zivhu lied about Zanu-PF officials stealing donated rice?

Story Highlights

  • “From our investigations we have established that the rice in question was distributed in Chivi South constituency by the Department of Social Welfare on the directive of the relevant minister. We have also established that another consignment is on its way there. There’s no theft which took place,” ZRP Spokesperson Paul Nyathi said.

Zanu-PF Member of the House of Assembly for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu, has been accused of lying to police that people in his constituency did not receive their share of Chinese rice that President Emmerson Mnangagwa donated to every rural community for Christmas.

Zivhu named senior Zanu-PF officials in Masvingo Province as having diverted the 15 tonnes of rice to Harare and Masvingo for sale, disenfranchising his constituency folks.

He named Minister of State for Masvingo Province, Ezra Chadzamira, as having taken delivery of the rice from a Grain Marketing Board depot before converting it to his own and selling it.

However, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, says he checked with people in the constituency and the indication is that they all received their share.

“Talking to family members in @killerzivhu1‘s Chivi South constituency as well as local leadership including councillors, all confirm that the rice alleged to have been stolen has actually been distributed to the beneficiaries. What are we dealing with here Hon, local politics?” Nick asked rhetorically.

Zivhu was last year suspended by ZANU PF Masvingo leadership which also wanted him expelled from the party over reports that he was calling for dialogue between MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Norton Legislator (independent), Temba Mliswa also posted on Twitter reminding Zivhu that he was seen as a G40 member who benefitted under former president, Robert Mugabe in land deals through Chombo, therefore, he was being avoided by some party members.

Zivhu made a police report and detectives, acting on tip-offs, pounced on a couple, Veronica Mhlanga and her husband Donny Huruva.

It has been revealed that Huruva is related to Chivi Rural District Council chairperson, Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa. The couple is assisting police with investigations.

The case was reported under Immediate Report (IR) 010074 and a Criminal Record (CR) is still to be opened.

However national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the allocations for Chivi South and Gutu North were collected on Chadzamira’s instruction. He added that the issue was being held at provincial level.

“From our investigations we have established that the rice in question was distributed in Chivi South constituency by the Department of Social Welfare on the directive of the relevant minister. We have also established that another consignment is on its way there. There’s no theft which took place,” Nyathi said.

Zivhu and Chadzamira have not been in good books after the provincial minister who is also Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chair recommended the summary expulsion of the legislator from the ruling party.
