LEAKED WHATSAPP: Is Zororo Makamba the 2nd confirmed COVID-19 patient?

RUMOURS on major social media platforms suggest that Zororo Makamba, the son of former Zanu-PF legislator and business James Makamba, is the second victim of Covid-19 and that he is in Intensive Care Unit.

Zororo Makamba is Director and Co-Founder of Eleven Dogs, a digital media and broadcasting company.

He is the current host and Executive Producer of Point of View with Zororo Makamba and is the second son of Telecel shareholder James Makamba.

Official reports say that the 2nd victim is a 30-year-old man who recently travelled from New York:

The patient is a 30-year-old man who returned to Harare from New York via South Africa earlier this month.

He then fell sick and self-isolated until he went into respiratory distress on Thursday and was rushed to Harare’s Wilkins Infectious Disease Hospital.

A leaked Whatsapp chat revealed that Zororo recently travelled from New York and is in ICU because of chest problems.

[22/03, 10:34] : Socialite Zororo Makamba son of James Makamba is the second confirmed case of Covid 19. He was recently in New York it’s unknown how many people he has interacted with and infected.

This thing is very serious and we urgently need to do scenario planning

[22/03, 10:34] : It’s true. His girlfriend Nyari Mutezo is a dentist. She attended to someone who then tested positive. Zororo is in intensive care. He has a pre existing condition in that he had a tumour in his chest that was removed. I think that’s why it had affected him badly. The whole Mutezo family is under quarantine

Maybe it’s just a coincidence or fake news doing rounds on social media as usual.

But what we know is that Zororo Makamba is 30yrs of age and likes travelling a lot and recently got back from New York.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Zimbabwe’s second confirmed patient was recently in the United States and is 30 years of age.

The statement said the patient recently travelled to New York on 29th February 2020 and returned home on the 9th of March 2020 via Johannesburg, South Africa.

The patient started showing symptoms on the 12th March which progressively got worse on the 19th of March.

Zororo was born on January 17, 1990.

The rumour mill was not helped by the fact that early yesterday, prominent journalist Mduduzi Mathuthu tweeted that “an explainer of Government propaganda for various Ministries and son of former Zanu-PF MP is a confirmed coronavirus case.”

Zororo is popular for using his media skills and networks to “explain” government programmes and interpret political developments on his platforms.

We wish all the Covid-19 patients the best and pray that they recover, and urge Zimbabweans to adhere to good hygienic practices.
